How to Make the Most of a Small Kitchen

How often do you look at your small kitchen and feel like you could do more to make it the kitchen of your dreams but don’t even know where to begin? Keep it Tidy

This may go without saying but when you have a small space it is best to keep mess and clutter to a minimum. There are many ways in which this can be achieved (and maintained), one of which is to get rid of anything you might not need or should be keeping in your kitchen! Alternatively, if you have a lot of kitchenware and need somewhere to store it, then try investing in some smart storage. Kitchen units that incorporate corner cupboards are great for adding a bit of extra storage space! Even adding a dishwasher to your kitchen is a great way of de-cluttering all those dirty dishes that tend to pile up on the side of your sink.

Bar vs. Table

If your kitchen is small, then having a table might not be the best option for maximising your space. When designing your kitchen, we suggest incorporating a breakfast bar. This means using kitchen cabinets that form an L-shape design, allowing you to create a usable space that doesn’t take up too much room in your kitchen! It might not be the same as having a table, but it’s still fully functional and adds a unique space to your home. Alternatively, if your heart is set on having a kitchen table that you and your family can spend quality time at, try opting for a drop leaf table. This is great as you can have a fully functional kitchen table, as well as be able to tuck it away when you need to.

Neutral

When it comes to colour schemes in a small kitchen, there’s one rule you should stick to: the simpler, the better. Typically, when a small room has a lot of colours going on, it can make the space seem fuller than it actually is. By using a neutral scheme, such as creams and whites, it makes the room appear lighter and brighter to the eye, making your space appear bigger than it actually is!

Open-Plan

This option may be more difficult, costly and time consuming but making your kitchen more open plan is an important factor to consider if you want to make more of your kitchen space. Just by taking a wall down to another small, adjoining room can add space to your kitchen and turn it into the kitchen of your dreams. Even taking a wall down to an adjoining dining room is a great way to optimise space, and a great choice for those of you who wish to have a kitchen table that you can socialise with your friends and family around!
